Method
Crispy Fried Chicken
- 1
Marinate the Chicken
In a bowl, combine the chicken pieces and buttermilk. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.
- 2
Prepare the Coating
In a separate bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Coat the Chicken
Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.
- 5
Fry the Chicken
Carefully place the coated chicken in the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Buttermilk Waffles
- 6
Preheat the Waffle Maker
Preheat your waffle maker according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- 7
Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- 8
Combine Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- 9
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix; it’s okay if there are a few lumps.
- 10
Cook the Waffles
Pour the appropriate amount of batter into the preheated waffle maker and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions until golden and crispy.
