Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Clean the Shrimp

Rinse the raw shrimp under cold running water to remove any dirt or debris. If the shrimp are not deveined, use a sharp knife to cut along the back and remove the vein.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Lemon

Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice into a bowl. Set aside.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Boil the Water

In a large pot, combine 4 cups of water, 2 tablespoons of salt, 1 tablespoon of Old Bay seasoning, 2 whole garlic cloves (lightly crushed), and 2 bay leaves. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over high heat.

  2. 4

    Add the Shrimp

Once the water is boiling, add the cleaned raw shrimp to the pot. Stir gently to ensure the shrimp are evenly submerged in the water.

  3. 5

    Cook the Shrimp

Cook the shrimp for about 2-3 minutes, or until they turn pink and opaque. Be careful not to overcook, as shrimp can become tough.

  4. 6

    Drain the Shrimp

Remove the pot from heat and carefully drain the shrimp in a colander. Rinse them briefly under cold water to stop the cooking process.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve

Arrange the boiled shrimp on a serving platter. Drizzle the lemon juice over the top, and garnish with additional lemon wedges if desired. Serve immediately with cocktail sauce or melted butter.
