Preparation
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This will ensure your Lost Forty bakes evenly.
Prepare the Baking Dish
Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with oil or butter to prevent sticking.
Mixing Ingredients
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
Combine Mixtures
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
Add Nuts
Fold in the chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts) into the batter.
Baking
Pour and Bake
Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool
Once baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool in the baking dish for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Glazing
Prepare the Glaze
In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Adjust the consistency as needed.
Drizzle the Glaze
Once the cake has cooled, drizzle the glaze over the top. Allow to set for a few minutes before serving.
