1. Prepare the Glass
Start by taking a lowball glass or an Old Fashioned glass.
2. Muddle the Sugar
Place the sugar cube in the glass. Add the 2 dashes of Angostura bitters over the sugar. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to crush the sugar cube and mix it with the bitters until it is dissolved.
3. Add Ice
Fill the glass with ice cubes. You can use one large ice cube or several smaller ones, depending on your preference.
4. Pour the Whiskey
Measure out 2 ounces of bourbon or rye whiskey and pour it over the ice in the glass.
5. Garnish
Take a strip of orange peel, twist it over the drink to release the oils, and drop it into the glass. Add a maraschino cherry on top as a garnish.
6. Serve
