Base & garnishes

Method

Prepare spread

  1. 1

    Make the spread

In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, Greek yogurt (or sour cream), lemon zest, lemon juice, sea salt, and black pepper. Whisk or beat with a fork until smooth and spreadable. Taste and adjust seasoning — add a touch more lemon or salt if needed.

Assemble crackers

  1. 2

    Spread base

Lay out the crackers on a serving board. Using a small knife or offset spatula, spread about 1 teaspoon (approximately 4–5 g) of the cream cheese mixture evenly onto each cracker, leaving a small border so it doesn't spill over.

  2. 3

    Add smoked salmon

Cut or fold the smoked salmon into 12 even portions (about 0.5 oz / 14 g each). Place one portion on top of the spread on each cracker, draping or folding it so it sits attractively.

  3. 4

    Garnish

Top each salmon-topped cracker with a few thin rings of red onion (a little goes a long way), a few capers (1–2 per cracker depending on size), and a small sprig of fresh dill. If using, sprinkle a light pinch of everything bagel seasoning or chopped chives over each for extra aroma and texture.

Finish & serve

  1. 5

Just before serving, lightly squeeze a few drops of lemon over selected crackers (or offer wedges for guests to add to taste). If desired, drizzle a very small amount (about 1/2 teaspoon distributed across 12 crackers) of extra-virgin olive oil for shine. Add microgreens or arugula to the platter for color and a peppery contrast.

  2. 6

Arrange crackers on a platter without stacking so they remain crisp. Serve immediately at cool room temperature. Leftover spread can be refrigerated up to 3 days; assembled crackers are best eaten within 1–2 hours to keep crackers crisp.
