Filter Coffee (Organic, Regular or Decaf)
Hot Tea (Loose leaf or Tea Bags)
Method
Filter Coffee (Organic, Regular or Decaf)
Grind and Measure
If using whole beans, grind organic coffee to a medium grind suitable for drip/filter brewing. Use ~1 heaping tablespoon (about 0.033 cups ≈ 10 g) of ground coffee per 6 fl oz (approximately 0.75 cups) of water. For a 12-cup pot, use about 12 level tablespoons (adjust to taste).
Prepare Machine
Fill the coffee maker's reservoir with fresh cold water to the desired cup marking (example here uses 12 cups). Place a paper filter or reusable filter in the basket and add the measured ground coffee, spreading it evenly.
Brew
Turn the coffee maker on and allow it to brew. Brewing time will vary by machine but typically takes 6–10 minutes for a full 12-cup pot. Avoid stirring during brewing.
Hot Tea (Loose leaf or Tea Bags)
Heat Water
Bring fresh cold water to a boil for black tea (212°F / 100°C) or to about 175–185°F (80–85°C) for green tea. If you don't have a thermometer, allow the water to come to a rolling boil for black tea or bring to a boil and let sit 1–2 minutes for green tea.
Measure Tea
Place 1 teaspoon of loose leaf tea (or 1 tea bag) per 1 cup of water into a teapot or cup. If preparing multiple cups, scale measurement proportionally.
Steep
Pour the hot water over the tea. Steep black tea for 3–5 minutes depending on desired strength; steep green tea for 2–3 minutes to avoid bitterness. Do not over-steep.
