Milk Base

Method

Heat & Flavor Milk

1

Warm the milk

Pour 1 cup of milk into a small saucepan. Warm over medium-low heat until the milk is hot but not boiling and begins to steam (about 3–4 minutes). Stir occasionally to prevent a skin from forming and to keep the bottom from scorching.

2

Add flavor and sweetness

Remove the pan from heat. Stir in 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar (if using) until dissolved and evenly incorporated. Taste and adjust sweetness if desired.

Froth

3

Froth the milk

Transfer the warm, flavored milk to a heatproof jug or keep in the saucepan. Use a handheld milk frother, an immersion blender, or a French press to froth the milk until it has a thick, velvety foam on top (about 30–60 seconds with an electric frother; 20–30 pumps with a French press). Aim for fine microfoam rather than big bubbles.

4

Alternative no-tool frothing

If you have no frother or French press, pour the warm milk into a tightly lidded jar, seal, and shake vigorously for 30–60 seconds. Remove the lid and microwave for 15 seconds to stabilize the foam if desired (be careful when removing jar — it will be hot).

Assemble & Serve

5

Pour the frothed milk into a small cup (4–6 oz). Spoon the foam to create a rounded cap. Dust the top lightly with 1/4 teaspoon cocoa powder or ground cinnamon using a small sieve for an even finish.

6

Add 4–6 mini marshmallows on top if serving to children for extra fun (optional). Serve immediately while warm.
