Coffee / Tea / Ade (choose one beverage)

Sweeteners & dairy options

Method

Prepare the cake slice

1

inspect and optional toast

Inspect the cake slice for freshness. If you prefer warm cake, lightly butter one side (optional) and toast in a nonstick pan over low heat for 1–2 minutes per side until warmed and slightly crisp at the edges. Alternatively, microwave on a microwave-safe plate for 12–15 seconds to warm.

2

If serving cold, transfer the slice to a dessert plate and set aside for plating with beverage.

Prepare beverage — Coffee

3

brew coffee

If choosing coffee, brew 250 ml of medium-strength coffee using your preferred method (drip, French press, pour-over).

4

finish coffee

Pour coffee into a mug. Add up to 1 tsp sugar or sweetener and 30 ml milk or cream, stirring to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness or milk to preference. Serve hot alongside the cake slice.

Prepare beverage — Tea

5

steep tea

If choosing tea, steep a tea bag or 2–3 g loose leaf in 250 ml just-boiled water for 2–5 minutes depending on tea type (2–3 min for green, 3–5 min for black/herbal).

6

finish tea

Remove the tea bag or strain leaves. Add up to 1 tsp sugar or sweetener and 30 ml milk if desired (milk is optional and not typical for some teas). Stir and serve hot with the cake slice.

Prepare beverage — Ade (lemonade/orangeade)

7

mix ade

If choosing ade, combine 300 ml ready-made ade or freshly mix 240 ml water with 60 ml fresh citrus juice and 1–2 tsp sugar to taste. Stir until sugar dissolves.

8

serve ade

Pour ade into a glass over 4 ice cubes. Garnish with 1–2 fresh fruit slices if desired. Serve chilled alongside the cake slice.

Plate and garnish

9

Arrange the warmed or room-temperature cake slice on a small dessert plate. Add any optional garnishes: a dollop (1 tbs) of whipped cream, a light dusting (1 tsp) of cocoa powder or cinnamon, and fresh fruit slices on the side.

10

Place the prepared beverage beside the plate. For a cozy presentation, keep the beverage on a saucer or small tray with a teaspoon and napkin.

11

Serve immediately. Estimated pairing: a single slice of cake with coffee or tea (hot) or ade (cold) is intended for one person.
