Prepare glass
Select a rocks glass (old fashioned). Fill the glass about three-quarters full with fresh ice cubes.
Measure spirits
Pour 1 oz Campari and 1 oz sweet vermouth directly over the ice in the glass.
Top with soda
Gently top the mixture with approximately 2 oz chilled soda water. Pour slowly so the drink layers lightly and remains slightly effervescent.
Stir
Give the drink one or two gentle short stirs with a bar spoon (about 4–6 seconds total) to combine the Campari, vermouth, and soda without flattening the carbonation.
Garnish and serve
Express the oils of an orange slice or twist over the glass by pinching it skin-side down, then drop the slice or twist into the drink as a garnish. Serve immediately.
