Method
Make-ahead Simple Syrup
Prepare syrup (if you don't have store-bought)
Combine 0.5 cup granulated sugar and 0.5 cup water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium, stirring until the sugar fully dissolves and the mixture is clear (about 3–5 minutes). Do not boil vigorously. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. Transfer to a sealed container and refrigerate. Keeps 2–3 weeks.
Cocktail Build
Fill a tall (collins) glass with ice cubes until nearly full (about 1 cup).
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz New Amsterdam Vodka, 1.25 oz fresh lemon juice (about 1 medium lemon), and 0.75 oz simple syrup. Fill the shaker with ice.
Shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the outside of the shaker is cold and slightly frosted. This chills and dilutes the mixture properly.
Strain the shaken mixture into the prepared tall glass over the ice.
Garnish with a lemon wheel or wedge on the rim and an optional fresh mint sprig slapped between your hands to release aromatics, then placed in the drink.
Serve immediately with a straw. Enjoy responsibly.
