Method
Cocktail
Muddle
Place one Luxardo cherry and 0.25 oz simple syrup into a mixing glass. Gently muddle the cherry once or twice to release some fruit and syrup—do not pulverize. This adds a subtle maraschino sweetness without clouding the drink.
Stir and chill
Stir gently for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 revolutions) until the drink is well chilled and properly diluted (target ~20–25% dilution).
Prepare glass
Place a large ice cube (or fresh ice) into an Old Fashioned / rocks glass.
Strain and serve
Using a julep or hawthorne strainer, strain the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass over the large ice cube in the serving glass.
Express orange oil and garnish
Take the orange rind and hold it skin-side down about 4–6 inches above the glass. Giving it a firm squeeze (or a quick twist), express the orange oils over the drink so they spray across the surface. Rub the rim with the peel if desired, then drop the rind into the glass. Add an extra Luxardo cherry on a pick if using.
Optional Finish
If you prefer an aromatic lift, slap a mint sprig between your hands to release aromatics and position it beside the cherry (not resting in the drink) as a fragrant garnish.
