1

Prepare

Place 10 fresh mint leaves in the bottom of a sturdy highball or Collins glass. Add 0.75 oz fresh lime juice and 0.75 oz simple syrup on top of the leaves.

2

Muddle

Using a cocktail muddler or the back of a wooden spoon, gently muddle the mint leaves with the lime juice and simple syrup. Press firmly enough to release the mint oils and aroma but not so hard that you shred the leaves (about 8–10 gentle presses).

3

Add rum and ice

Add 2 oz Cruzan Light Rum to the glass. Fill the glass with crushed ice up to about 3/4 full (roughly 1 cup crushed ice).

4

Build and mix

Give the cocktail a gentle stir with a long bar spoon to mix the rum with the muddled mint-lime base and chill the drink, about 6–8 rotations.

5

Top with soda

Top the glass with about 2 oz (or to taste) club soda to add effervescence. Gently lift and toss the top layer once with the spoon to integrate the soda without bruising the mint further.

6

Garnish and serve

Add a fresh mint sprig and a lime wedge on the rim. Optionally slap the mint sprig between your palms once and insert it into the drink to release extra aroma. Serve immediately with a straw.
