In a large pot, heat 3 cups of water to about 160°F (70°C). Add the crushed malted barley and caramel malt to the pot. Stir well and maintain the temperature between 150°F (65°C) and 155°F (68°C) for 60 minutes.

Prepare the Mash

After the mashing process, strain the liquid (wort) into another pot. Bring the wort to a boil and add the hops. Boil for 60 minutes, stirring occasionally.

After boiling, cool the wort quickly to about 70°F (21°C) using an immersion chiller or an ice bath.

Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermentation vessel. Add the yeast and seal with an airlock. Allow the beer to ferment at room temperature (around 68°F or 20°C) for 1-2 weeks until fermentation is complete.

Fermentation

Once fermentation is complete, dissolve the sugar in a small amount of water and add it to the fermented beer. Bottle the beer, leaving some space at the top of each bottle. Seal the bottles and store them at room temperature for another 1-2 weeks to carbonate.

Carbonation

After carbonation, chill the bottles in the refrigerator. Pour into a glass and enjoy your homemade Menabrea Rossa!
