Arepitas

Method

Preparation

1

Make the Arepas

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, warm water, and salt. Mix until a dough forms. Allow it to rest for about 5 minutes.

2

Shape the Arepas

Divide the dough into small balls (about the size of a golf ball). Flatten each ball to form discs about 1/2 inch thick.

3

Cook the Arepas

In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Cook the arepas for about 5-6 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove them from the skillet and let them cool slightly.

4

Prepare the Filling

In each arepa, make a slit and stuff it with the shredded beef and Gouda cheese.

5

Serve with Guasacaca

Serve the arepitas warm and drizzle with Guasacaca sauce to taste.
