Method
Burger Patties & Seasoning
Make Patty Mixture
In a large bowl combine ground beef, finely grated onion, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands or a fork until just combined — avoid overworking the meat to keep patties tender.
Form Patties
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions (about 4 oz each). Form each portion into a patty roughly 3.5 inches in diameter and about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent puffing while cooking.
Cook Patties
Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat and add vegetable oil. When shimmering, place patties in the pan (do not crowd; cook in batches if necessary). Cook 3–4 minutes on the first side until a good brown crust forms. Flip and cook 2–3 minutes more for medium (internal temperature ~160°F / 71°C). During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar on each patty, cover the pan briefly with a lid to melt the cheese.

Deluxe Toppings
Prepare Toppings
While patties cook, slice tomato into 1/4-inch slices, thinly slice the red onion, and rinse and dry lettuce leaves or shred iceberg. If bacon is not yet cooked, cook bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp (about 6–8 minutes), then drain on paper towels. Arrange pickles, tomato, onion, lettuce, and bacon for assembly.
Deluxe Sauce
Make Sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, garlic powder, paprika, and salt until smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning; add a touch more relish for sweetness or a pinch more salt if needed.
Assemble Deluxe Burgers
Spread about 1 to 1 1/2 tablespoons of the deluxe sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place a lettuce leaf or a small mound of shredded lettuce on the sauce to act as a moisture barrier. Set the cheeseburger patty on the lettuce. Top each patty with two strips of crispy bacon, 2–3 pickle slices, a tomato slice, and a few rings of red onion. Spread a thin layer of sauce on the top bun and close the burger. Serve immediately with chips, fries, or a side salad.
If serving later, keep patties loosely tented with foil and store buns separately to avoid sogginess. Reheat patties in a low oven (275°F / 135°C) to keep them juicy.
