Dr Pepper-inspired Syrup (Concentrate)

Method

Dr Pepper-inspired Syrup Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare flavor blend

In a small bowl, whisk together cinnamon, allspice, coriander, and cloves to create a unified spice blend.

  2. 2

    Dissolve sugar

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine granulated sugar and water. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely and the mixture becomes a clear syrup.

  3. 3

    Add flavors and acids

Stir in vanilla extract, cherry extract, almond extract, orange juice, and lemon juice into the syrup.

  4. 4

    Infuse spices

Add the spice blend to the saucepan. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 8-10 minutes to meld flavors, stirring occasionally.

  5. 5

    Color and adjust

If using caramel color, whisk in 2 tablespoons gradually until the syrup reaches a deep amber color. Taste and adjust acidity with more lemon or orange juice if desired.

  6. 6

    Strain and cool

Remove from heat and strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve to remove solids. Let the concentrate cool to room temperature, then transfer to a clean bottle.

  7. 7

    Chill and store

Refrigerate the syrup. It can be kept for up to 2 weeks.

  8. 8

    To serve

Mix 1 part syrup with 5 parts cold carbonated water (club soda). Taste and adjust ratio as desired. Serve over ice.
