Frosted Rim
Mini Waffles & Assembly Toppings
Vanilla Milkshake Base
Tools & Serve
Method
Frosted Rim
- 1
Prep rim mixture
If your frosting is very thick, stir in 1 tablespoon softened butter (or a splash of milk) to make it spreadable but still sticky. Pour the granulated sugar or crushed vanilla cookies onto a shallow plate.
- 2
Dip the top rim of each chilled glass into the frosting, rotating to evenly coat about 1/2 inch down the inside and outside of the rim. Immediately dip the frosted rim into the sugar or crushed cookies to coat. Set glasses upright in the refrigerator to firm while you prepare the rest.
Mini Waffles & Assembly Toppings
- 3
Heat the mini waffles according to package instructions (toaster or oven) until crisp and warm. For best texture, toast so edges are golden and slightly crunchy. Let cool briefly so they hold ice cream without melting instantly.
- 4
Warm about 1/2 cup of the caramel sauce slightly (microwave 15–20 seconds) to make it pourable for drizzling and layering. Reserve the rest at room temperature or warm gently.
- 5
Place 2 warmed mini waffles on a plate and top with 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream to form a small sandwich. Repeat to create 4 mini waffle-ice cream sandwiches (use 4 waffles tops + 4 bottoms = 8 waffles total). Press gently so ice cream adheres. Freeze assembled sandwiches for 10–15 minutes while you make the shake so they set.
- 6
Reserve a few extra waffle pieces (broken halves) for garnish and keep remaining waffles warm for stacking as needed.
Vanilla Milkshake Base
- 7
In a blender add 2 cups whole milk, 4 scoops vanilla ice cream, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon powdered sugar (if using). Add 4 ice cubes only if you want a thicker, frosty shake. Blend on high until smooth and creamy (15–30 seconds). Do not overblend; you want thick texture to support toppings.
- 8
Taste and adjust sweetness or thickness: add another 1/2 scoop ice cream for thicker shake or a tablespoon more milk if too thick.
- 9
Drizzle about 1 tablespoon caramel sauce inside each frosted glass, allowing it to streak down the sides for decoration.
- 10
Pour the milkshake into the prepared frosted glasses, filling to about 3/4 full to leave room for toppings.
Assembly & Finish
- 11
Place a mini waffle ice cream sandwich on top of each filled glass, positioning it so it sits partly on the rim. Stack another waffle sandwich on top if space and stability allow — aim for 2 stacked sandwiches per shake for height.
- 12
Spoon an extra scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of the stacked waffles if desired, then drizzle 1-2 tablespoons caramel sauce over the stack and down the sides.
- 13
Top with a generous swirl of whipped cream (about 1/2 cup per shake). Sprinkle mini chocolate chips or rainbow sprinkles over the whipped cream and caramel. Insert a straw and a long spoon for eating the stacked waffles and ice cream.
- 14
Serve immediately with a napkin and warn guests that these are 'Ultimate Insane' shakes — tall and messy. If not serving instantly, keep assembled waffle sandwiches chilled until ready and assemble last-minute for best presentation.
