Method

Drink

  1. 1

    Chill bottle

Place the bottle of sparkling mineral water in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours beforehand so it's well chilled (ideally 38–45°F / 3–7°C). If short on time, chill in an ice bath for 15–20 minutes.

  2. 2

Fill the serving glass with ice cubes. How much ice you use is a matter of preference; typically fill the glass about two-thirds full to keep the drink cold while preserving carbonation.

  3. 3

Open the chilled bottle carefully to retain carbonation: hold bottle upright, twist cap slowly, and allow a gentle hiss rather than a vigorous fizzing overflow.

  4. 4

Pour the sparkling water into the prepared glass over the ice. Pour down the side of the glass or over a spoon to minimize agitation and preserve bubbles.

  5. 5

If desired, squeeze a lemon or lime wedge lightly over the top (optional) and drop it into the glass for a hint of citrus. Alternatively, lightly slap the mint sprig between your palms to release aroma and tuck it into the glass as a garnish.

  6. 6

Serve immediately while the drink is effervescent. Provide a straw or stirrer if preferred, but avoid stirring vigorously to maintain carbonation.

Glass preparation

  1. 7

Select a clean, chilled glass if possible. Rinse with cold water and place in the freezer for 5–10 minutes for an extra-cold presentation (optional).

  2. 8

For single-serve presentation, pour from the bottle into the chilled tumbler at the table so guests enjoy maximum carbonation and a fresh pour.
