Milkshake Base

Method

Milkshake Base

  1. 1

Chill the serving glass(s) in the freezer for 10–15 minutes to keep the shake cold while assembling.

  2. 2

Place the vanilla ice cream, whole milk, halved Oreo cookies (reserve 2 whole cookies for garnish), and 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup in a high-speed blender.

  3. 3

Pulse 6–8 times, then blend on medium-high for 10–15 seconds until smooth but still thick. Scrape down the sides and pulse once more if needed. The shake should be thick enough to hold a cake slice on top; add an extra 1/4 cup ice cream if too thin or 1–2 tablespoons milk if too thick.

Chocolate-Frosted Rim

  1. 4

Melt the chopped semisweet chocolate or chips with 1 teaspoon corn syrup in a heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water (double boiler) or in 20-second bursts in the microwave, stirring between intervals, until smooth.

  2. 5

Dip the top rim of each chilled serving glass into the warm chocolate to coat about 1/2 inch. Immediately dip the chocolate-coated rim into the finely crushed Oreo crumbs so they adhere. Set glasses upright in the freezer for 2–3 minutes to set the rim.

Assemble Shake in Glass

  1. 6

Spoon a small drizzle (about 1 teaspoon) of chocolate syrup inside the glass, letting it drip down the sides for decoration.

  2. 7

Pour the prepared cookies-and-cream milkshake into the chocolate-frosted glass, leaving about 1 1/2 to 2 inches of headspace for the cake slice and whipped cream.

  1. 8

Slice the mini Oreo cookie cake (or cookie cake slice) to produce a 1–1.5 inch thick piece that will sit on the shake. If the cake is too soft, chill it for 10 minutes to firm up so it sits neatly.

  2. 9

Place the cake slice upright or slightly angled on top of the milkshake so it partially sits on the rim. If needed, spoon a little whipped cream onto the top of the shake first to create a stabilizing bed for the cake slice.

Garnishes & Finish

  1. 10

Top around the cake slice with a generous swirl of whipped cream (about 1/4–1/3 cup).

  2. 11

Drizzle additional chocolate syrup over the whipped cream and cake (use the 2 tablespoons reserved) and finish with a light sprinkle of mini chocolate chips or cookie crumbs.

  3. 12

Insert the 2 reserved whole Oreo cookies into the whipped cream as garnish (one on each side of the cake slice) or crumble one on top and prop one whole cookie on the rim.

  4. 13

Optional: add a small drizzle (1 teaspoon) of marshmallow or chocolate sauce for an extra decorative drip down the cake slice and rim.

  5. 14

Serve immediately with a wide straw and long dessert spoon so guests can enjoy both shake and cake.
