Shake Base

Method

Prepare Glass Decoration

  1. 1

    Melt chocolate for frosting

Chop the semisweet chocolate if needed and place in a microwave-safe bowl with the corn syrup. Microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and glossy (about 45–60 seconds total). Alternatively, melt in a double boiler. Let cool slightly but keep pourable.

  2. 2

Prep rim and coat with M&M's

Lightly brush the top rim of your serving glass with the softened butter or a little of the melted chocolate to act as adhesive. Dip or drizzle a thin band of the melted chocolate around the inner upper rim and immediately press or roll the rim into the mini M&M's so they stick. If you prefer a dripping effect, spoon some melted chocolate down the inside of the glass in streaks to create decorative drips.

  3. 3

Place the prepared glass in the refrigerator for 5–10 minutes to set the chocolate while you make the shake.

Make the Shake

  1. 4

    Combine ingredients

In a blender add 3 cups chocolate ice cream, 1 cup whole milk, 1 cup chocolate fudge cake crumbs (break the cake slice into chunks if using fresh), 2 tbs chocolate syrup and 1 tsp vanilla extract. If you want a thicker shake, omit ice; for a slightly thinner, add up to 1/2 cup ice. Do not overfill the blender—work in batches for large containers.

  2. 5

    Blend to smooth

Pulse once to break up cake crumbs, then blend on medium-high until very smooth and creamy, about 30–45 seconds. Scrape down the sides and blend 5–10 seconds more. Taste and adjust: add another tablespoon of chocolate syrup for more sweetness or up to 1/4 cup more milk if too thick.

Assemble & Garnish

  1. 6

Remove the chilled decorated glass from the refrigerator. For a clean presentation, you can spoon a little extra melted chocolate inside before pouring the shake to reinforce the drizzle look.

  2. 7

Pour the shake into the decorated glass slowly, leaving room at the top for toppings (about 1/2 inch).

  3. 8

Top with about 1/2 cup whipped cream (optional). Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of M&M's on top and add the chocolate shavings or an extra drizzle of chocolate syrup.

  4. 9

Garnish the rim with a slice of chocolate fudge cake by standing the slice on the edge or placing it on a small skewer and resting it across the glass. Serve immediately with a wide straw and a long spoon.
