Float components
Method
Assemble Ice Cream Float
Chill glass (recommended)
Place a tall glass (16–20 oz) in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice and cold water for 1–2 minutes to chill. Dump out the water and ice before assembling.
Add chocolate sauce
Drizzle about 1 tablespoon of chocolate sauce around the inside walls of the chilled glass and let some pool at the bottom for visual appeal and flavor.
Add ice cream
Place 2 scoops of cold vanilla ice cream into the glass. If using very large scoops, you may use 1.5 scoops to avoid overflow.
Pour nitro cold brew
Slowly pour 12 fl oz of nitro cold brew over the back of a spoon or down the side of the glass to minimize vigorous foaming. Pour gently until the liquid reaches just below the rim; some foam is expected and desired.
Top with whipped cream
Spoon or pipe about 2 tablespoons of whipped cream on top of the float, keeping the dollop centered on the foam/ice cream.
Finish with garnish
Drizzle the remaining 1 tablespoon of chocolate sauce over the whipped cream and sprinkle 1 teaspoon of chocolate shavings or a light dusting of cocoa powder for decoration.
Serve
Serve immediately with a long spoon and a straw. Instruct drinkers to spoon ice cream into the coffee as they sip for the classic float experience.
Cleanup tip
Rinse any utensils or the glass with a little cold water immediately to prevent chocolate or dairy from sticking.
