Cake & Topping
Cup & Rim
1. Prepare the cup by spreading about 2 tablespoons of chocolate frosting evenly around the rim and upper interior of the cup. You want a thick, even coating so the graham cracker crumbs will adhere.
2. Place the crushed graham crackers in a shallow dish. Immediately press the frosted rim into the crushed graham crackers, rotating the cup to coat the rim evenly. Set the prepared cup aside on a small plate.
Hot Chocolate
3. In a small saucepan, combine 2 cups whole milk and 3 tablespoons Ghirardelli hot chocolate mix with 1 teaspoon granulated sugar. Whisk briefly to combine dry mix with milk.
4. Warm the mixture over medium-low heat, whisking frequently. Do not boil; bring it to a gentle steam and small bubbles at the edge (about 160–170°F / 71–77°C if using a thermometer), about 4–6 minutes.
5. Once hot and smooth, remove from heat and whisk in 1 teaspoon unsalted butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until glossy. Taste and adjust sweetness or chocolate intensity as desired.
6. Pour the hot chocolate into the prepared chocolate-frosted, graham-cracker-rimmed cup, filling to about 3/4 full to leave room for the cake slice and whipped cream.
Cake & Topping
7. Place one slice of chocolate fudge cake gently on top of the cup so it rests across the rim. If the cake is warm, allow it to cool slightly so it won’t collapse into the drink. The cake should sit stably across the rim; trim the slice if needed for a balanced fit.
8. Spoon or pipe about 3 tablespoons of whipped cream on top of the cake slice (or on the exposed edge of the cake).
9. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of chocolate sauce over the whipped cream and the cake slice. Optionally sprinkle 1 teaspoon of chocolate shavings or a light dusting of cocoa powder over the top for garnish.
10. Serve immediately with a small dessert spoon and straw. Advise the guest to enjoy the hot chocolate, then take bites of the cake, or alternate sips and bites for the full experience.
