Method
Preparing the Beans
- 1
If your BPF House Blend is whole bean, measure 0.75 oz (approximately 21 grams) of beans per 12-oz cup using a scale. Adjust quantity to taste (18–22 g typical).
- 2
Grind beans to the grind size appropriate for your brewing method: coarse for French press, medium for drip/pour-over, fine for espresso. Grind immediately before brewing for best freshness.
Brewing - Drip or Pour-Over (12-oz serving)
- 3
Water temperature
Heat filtered water to 195–205°F (90–96°C). If you don't have a thermometer, bring water to a boil and let sit 30 seconds.
- 4
Place a filter in your drip maker or pour-over cone and rinse it with hot water; discard rinse water. This removes paper taste and preheats the brewer.
- 5
Add 0.75 oz (≈21 g) medium-ground coffee to the filter. Level the grounds for even extraction.
- 6
Bloom (pour-over only): Pour about 40–50 ml (1.5–1.8 oz) hot water evenly over grounds to wet them. Wait 30–45 seconds to allow degassing.
- 7
Continue pouring or start the drip cycle to reach a total of 12 oz (≈355 ml) of brewed coffee. Total contact time should be about 2.5–4 minutes for drip and 3–4 minutes for pour-over, depending on grind.
- 8
Remove filter and serve immediately.
Brewing - French Press (12-oz serving)
- 9
Preheat the French press with hot water, then discard the water.
- 10
Add 0.75 oz (≈21 g) coarse-ground coffee to the press.
- 11
Pour 12 oz (≈355 ml) hot water (195–205°F / 90–96°C) evenly over the grounds. Stir gently to ensure all grounds are saturated.
- 12
Place the lid with plunger raised and let steep for 4 minutes.
- 13
Slowly press the plunger down and pour the coffee immediately to avoid over-extraction.
Brewing - Espresso (single shot equivalent)
- 14
Use finely ground beans and 7–9 g coffee for a single short shot or 18–20 g for a double, tamping evenly. Pull shot according to your machine’s guidelines (typically 25–30 seconds).

Finishing and Serving

Store unused coffee in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. Use within 2–4 weeks after opening for best flavor.
