Mixing
Add the gin (2 oz) to a mixing glass.
Pour in the blanc vermouth (0.5 oz) and Lillet Blanc (0.25 oz). These provide floral, slightly sweet, and citrusy notes that define the 'Gray Whale' profile.
Add the dry curaçao (0.25 oz) for a clean orange backbone and the optional walnut or pelinkovac (0.25 oz) if you want a subtle nutty/earthy complexity reminiscent of coastal driftwood.
Add fresh lemon juice (0.5 oz) and simple syrup (0.25 oz) to keep the cocktail balanced between bright acidity and slight sweetness.
Add 2 dashes of amber (orange) bitters to round out the citrus and add warm spice notes.
Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes (about 3–4 pieces).
Stir gently but thoroughly for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full spoon turns) until the mix is well-chilled and slightly diluted. The color should become pale and slightly opalescent — hence 'Gray' in the name.
Finish & Serve
Serve immediately. The cocktail should be bright, slightly floral, with citrus and faint nutty/amber depth — evocative of a cool coastal breeze and the Gray Whale's migration (Sebastopol reference).
