Ingredients for Homemade Yuengling Style Lager
Method
Brewing Instructions
- 1
Mashing
Begin by heating 2 gallons of water in a large pot to approximately 165°F (74°C). Once heated, add the pale malt and crystal malt to the water.
- 2
Sparging
After mashing for 30 minutes, sparge the grains with additional hot water to extract the sugars. Collect the wort (the liquid) in a separate pot.
- 3
Boiling
Bring the wort to a boil and add the hops. Boil for 60 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- 4
Cooling
After boiling, cool the wort rapidly using an immersion chiller or an ice bath until it reaches around 70°F (21°C).
- 5
Fermentation
Transfer the cooled wort into a sanitized fermentation vessel. Pitch the yeast into the wort and seal with an airlock. Allow it to ferment at a consistent temperature of around 50-55°F (10-13°C) for about 2 weeks.
- 6
Bottling
After fermentation, dissolve the priming sugar in a small amount of boiling water, let it cool, then add it to the beer. Transfer the beer into sanitized bottles and cap them.
- 7
Carbonation
Let the bottles sit at room temperature for about 1-2 weeks to carbonate. After this time, refrigerate and enjoy your homemade Yuengling-style lager!
