Top Sirloin

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Take the 8 oz. top sirloin steak out of the refrigerator and let it rest at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking. This helps it cook evenly.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Rub the steak with 1 tablespoon of olive oil on both sides. Then, season generously with 1 teaspoon of kosher salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, ensuring an even coating.

  3. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Pan

Preheat your grill to high heat or heat a skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, you can add a little more olive oil to prevent sticking.

  4. 4

    Cook the Steak

Once the grill or skillet is hot, add the seasoned top sirloin steak. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it to get a good sear.

  5. 5

    Flip the Steak

Using tongs, carefully flip the steak over and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium-rare doneness. If you prefer it more done, cook it for an additional minute or two.

  6. 6

    Check for Doneness

Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. For medium-rare, it should read 130-135°F (54-57°C).

  7. 7

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the grill or skillet and let it rest on a cutting board for about 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.

  8. 8

    Serve

Slice the steak against the grain and serve. Optionally, garnish with a sprig of fresh rosemary for added flavor.
