Method
Prep
Choose HOT or COLD when ordering. Gather fresh lemon, apple, spirits, syrups, and appropriate serving glass: heatproof mug for hot or rocks/highball glass for cold.
If making honey syrup, combine equal parts honey and warm water and stir until blended. If using simple syrup, have chilled or room temperature ready.
Assembly — Cold (Shaken) Option
Muddle
In a cocktail shaker, place 2 apple slices and 0.5 oz simple syrup (or honey syrup). Gently muddle 6–8 times to release apple juices and aromatics; avoid pulverizing to keep clarity.
Build & Shake
Add 2 oz whiskey, 0.75 oz apple liqueur, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, and a handful of ice (approximately 1 cup) to the shaker. Shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled.
Strain & Finish
Double-strain into a rocks glass over fresh large ice (or serve up in a coupe). If desired, top with 0.5–1 oz club soda or ginger ale for a lighter, fizzy finish.
Garnish
Garnish with a thin apple wheel or fan on the rim and, if liked, a small lemon twist. Serve immediately.
Assembly — Hot Option
Add Hot Water
Pour about 4 oz hot water (not boiling, about 160–175°F / 70–80°C) into the mug and stir gently to combine. Adjust water volume to preferred strength and temperature.
Spice (optional)
If using, add a cinnamon stick to steep for 1–2 minutes for warming spice; remove or leave in as garnish.
Garnish & Serve
Garnish with a thin apple wheel or float a slice on top. Serve hot with a small spoon or cinnamon stick for stirring.
Notes & Adjustments
Sweetness and tartness can be adjusted: increase simple/honey syrup to 0.75–1 oz for sweeter, or add more lemon juice (up to 0.75 oz) for brighter acidity.
For a clearer cold cocktail, omit muddling and substitute 0.5–0.75 oz apple liqueur plus a dash of apple bitters; shake and double-strain.
