Hair of the Dog cocktail

Method

Hair of the Dog cocktail

1

Prepare glass

Chill a highball or pint glass by filling it with ice and letting it sit while you assemble ingredients (about 2 minutes). Discard the chilling ice before building the drink.

2

Mix base Bloody Mary

In a cocktail shaker (or mixing glass) add 2 oz Tito's vodka, 4 oz Zing Zang Bloody Mary mix, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce, 0.5 tsp prepared horseradish, 3 dashes hot sauce, 1 tsp celery salt, and 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper. Add a handful of ice (about 4–6 large cubes).

3

Shake or roll

Secure the shaker and roll/shake gently for 8–10 seconds — you want to chill and integrate the ingredients without over-diluting. If using a mixing glass, stir briskly for 10–12 seconds.

4

Pour over ice

Fill the chilled serving glass with fresh ice (large cubes or crushed, about 1 cup). Strain the mixed Bloody Mary base into the glass, leaving about 1 to 1.5 inches of headspace for the stout.

5

Float the Guinness

Slowly pour 2 oz Guinness Draught over the back of a spoon held just above the surface of the drink to create a light stout float. Pouring slowly helps the stout sit on top and creates a layered appearance and a creamy top.

6

Garnish and serve

Garnish with a celery stalk and a lemon wedge on the rim. Optionally add a crispy bacon strip for an extra savory accent. Serve with a long spoon or straw so the drink can be stirred before sipping if desired.

7

How to drink

The cocktail can be sipped as-is to enjoy the layered stout top followed by the savory Bloody Mary, or briefly stirred to integrate the flavors. Taste and adjust with additional hot sauce, lemon, or celery salt to preference.
