1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer for several minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the drink is served well chilled.

2

Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add apple-flavored vodka (2 oz), triple sec (3/4 oz), tart cranberry juice (1 oz), fresh lime juice (1/2 oz), and simple syrup (1/4 oz) if you prefer a slightly sweeter balance.

3

Add ice and shake

Add 6 ice cubes to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold to the touch and the outside has a light frost. This both chills and slightly dilutes the cocktail to balance flavors.

4

Prepare glass

If you chilled the glass with ice water, dump the water now. If you used the freezer, remove the glass and ensure it's dry.

5

Strain and serve

Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer (or just a Hawthorne if you don't have a mesh). This yields a clear, silky drink served 'up' (without ice).

6

Garnish

Float a lime wheel on the surface or drop it on the rim for aroma and presentation.

7

Taste and adjust (optional)

If the drink tastes too tart, stir in an additional 1/4 oz simple syrup and re-shake briefly with fresh ice, then strain again.
