Chill glass

Place a rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to chill.

Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz Jameson Irish Whiskey, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.

Add ice and shake

Add a handful of ice (about 1 cup) to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.

Prepare glass

Discard ice or ice water from the chilled rocks glass. If desired, add 1 large ice cube or fresh ice to the glass.

Strain

Double-strain the shaken cocktail into the prepared rocks glass over the ice using a Hawthorne or fine mesh strainer to remove small ice shards and pulp.

Garnish and serve

Express a lemon twist over the drink (squeeze the peel to release oils) and drop it in or place a lemon wheel on the rim. Optionally add a mint sprig or orange twist. Serve immediately.
