Main Ingredients
Brewing Process
1. Mash the Grains
Heat 5 gallons of water to 165°F (74°C) and add the crushed pale malt and caramel malt. Maintain the temperature at 150°F (65°C) for 60 minutes.
2. Sparge the Grains
Heat another 5 gallons of water to 170°F (77°C) and sparge over the grains to collect the wort in a brew kettle.
3. Boil the Wort
Bring the wort to a boil and add the bittering hops. Boil for 60 minutes, adding the flavor hops in the last 15 minutes and the aroma hops in the last 5 minutes.
4. Cool the Wort
After boiling, cool the wort quickly using a wort chiller or an ice bath.
5. Fermentation
Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermentation vessel, pitch the yeast, and seal with an airlock. Ferment for 1-2 weeks at around 68°F (20°C).
6. Bottling
Once fermentation is complete, dissolve priming sugar in a small amount of water and add to the beer before bottling. Bottle the beer and cap the bottles.
7. Conditioning
Allow the bottles to condition at room temperature for 1-2 weeks before refrigerating and enjoying your India Pale Ale.
