Vanilla Strawberry Orange Cocktail
Vanilla-Strawberry Syrup (if making from scratch)
Method
Vanilla Strawberry Orange Cocktail
- 1
Prepare glass and muddle
Place 1 fresh strawberry (hulled) in the bottom of a highball or Collins glass. Add the vanilla-strawberry syrup (1 oz). Gently muddle the strawberry and syrup together 6–8 times to release color and aroma; avoid pulverizing into complete puree.
- 2
Build the drink
Fill the glass with ice cubes (about 1 cup). Pour in 4 oz fresh orange juice and, if using, 0.25 oz fresh lemon or lime juice to add brightness. Stir once gently to combine syrup and juice with the muddled berry.

- 4
Garnish and serve
Thread a thin orange slice and a halved strawberry on a cocktail pick or float them on top. Serve immediately with a straw or stirrer.
Make Vanilla-Strawberry Syrup (optional)
- 5
Combine 1 cup chopped strawberries, 1 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- 6
Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and simmer 5–7 minutes, mashing strawberries with the back of a spoon to release juice and color.
- 7
Remove from heat and let the mixture steep 15–20 minutes to deepen flavor.
- 8
Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a heatproof container, pressing on solids to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard solids or reserve for other uses.
- 9
Stir in 1 tsp pure vanilla extract. Cool to room temperature, then refrigerate in a sealed container for up to 2 weeks.
