Method
Sandwich
- 1
Prepare bread
Spread mayonnaise evenly on one slice of sourdough bread. Spread the softened butter on the outer side of both slices (the side that will contact the skillet) — this gives a golden crust when toasting.
- 2
Assemble
On the mayo-coated slice place 3 slices of deli ham evenly, then top with 2 slices of cheddar cheese. Place the second slice of sourdough on top, buttered side out.
- 3
Pan-toast the sandwich
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-low to medium heat. Place the sandwich in the skillet and press gently with a spatula. Cook 3–4 minutes until the bottom is golden-brown. Flip carefully, press again, and cook another 3–4 minutes until the cheese is melted and both sides are golden. If the bread browns before the cheese melts, reduce heat to low and cover the skillet for 1–2 minutes to help the cheese melt through.
- 4
Rest and slice
Remove the sandwich to a cutting board and let rest 1 minute. Slice diagonally (or to your preference) and transfer to the serving plate.
Fries & Garnish
- 5
Cook fries (oven or air fryer)
If using an oven: preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Toss the frozen Frites Street shoestring fries with 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp black pepper on a baking sheet in a single layer. Bake 10–14 minutes, turning once halfway, until crisp and golden. If using an air fryer: preheat to 400°F (200°C) and air-fry 6–9 minutes, shaking halfway, until crisp.
- 6
Plate
Place cooked fries beside the sliced sandwich. Add the pickle spear to the plate. Serve immediately while fries are hot and sandwich is warm.
