Beverage Base

1

Prepare coffee

Brew 1 cup of coffee using your preferred method (drip, French press, espresso machine). Aim for a hot serving temperature of about 65–75°C (149–167°F). Pour the brewed coffee into a pre-warmed cup.

2

Prepare tea

If selecting tea instead of coffee, heat 1 cup of fresh water to the appropriate temperature: 95–100°C for black tea, 80–85°C for green tea, or 95–100°C for herbal tea. Place 1 tea bag in a cup and pour the hot water over it. Steep for the recommended time: 3–5 minutes for black, 2–3 minutes for green, 5–7 minutes for herbal. Remove the tea bag.

3

If offering milk, gently warm 2 tablespoons of whole milk (or milk alternative) either on the stove or in short bursts in the microwave until warm but not boiling (about 55–65°C). Froth if desired and add to the coffee or tea.

Sweeteners & Flavorings

4

Sweeten to taste. Start with 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar, honey, or simple syrup. Stir until dissolved.

5

For added flavor, stir in up to 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or a pinch of ground cinnamon. Taste and adjust.

Garnish (optional)

6

For tea (particularly black or herbal), add a lemon slice on the rim or a squeeze into the cup. For either beverage, serve with a cinnamon stick for stirring and aroma if desired.
