1. Prepare the Coffee Mixture
In a shallow dish, combine the brewed and cooled espresso coffee with coffee liqueur if using. Set aside.
2. Whip the Cream
In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar and continue to whip until stiff peaks form.
3. Mix Mascarpone
In another bowl, gently mix the mascarpone cheese with vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
4. Combine Mixtures
Fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined and smooth.
5. Dip Ladyfingers
Briefly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them. Lay them in a single layer in the bottom of a dish.
6. Layer the Mixture
Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the layer of ladyfingers. Repeat the process with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
7. Chill
Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
8. Serve
Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder. Cut into squares and enjoy!
