Baklava Ingredients

Method

Baklava Preparation

1

Prepare the Butter

Melt the unsalted butter in a saucepan over low heat. Once melted, set aside to cool slightly.

2

Prepare the Nut Mixture

In a bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, sugar, and ground cinnamon. Mix well.

3

Layer the Phyllo Dough

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking dish. Take one sheet of phyllo dough, brush it with melted butter, and place it in the baking dish. Repeat this process, layering 8 to 10 sheets, brushing each with butter.

4

Add Nut Mixture

Sprinkle a thin layer of the nut mixture over the phyllo layers. Add 2 more butter-brushed phyllo sheets, then top with more nut mixture. Repeat the layering process until all nuts are used, finishing with 8 to 10 layers of butter-brushed phyllo on top.

5

Cut and Bake

Before baking, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.

6

Prepare Syrup

While the baklava is baking, combine water, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.

7

Finish Baklava

Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over it. Allow it to soak for at least 4 hours or overnight before serving.
