Method

Preparation

1

Prepare the Nut Filling

In a small bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, sugar, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.

2

Assemble the Baklava

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush a small baking dish with melted butter. Place one sheet of phyllo dough in the dish and brush it lightly with more butter. Repeat this process with a second sheet. Sprinkle half of the nut filling over the phyllo layers.

3

Layer and Bake

Cover the nut filling with another phyllo sheet, brushing it with butter. Repeat to create several layers, ending with a top layer of phyllo. Cut into diamond shapes. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Syrup Preparation

4

Make the Syrup

While the baklava is baking, combine water, sugar, and honey in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

5

Finish Baklava

Once the baklava is baked, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup over the hot baklava. Allow it to soak for at least 30 minutes before serving.
