Sandwich (choose one)

Alternative sandwich proteins (select one substitution)

Method

Sandwich (choose one)

  1. 1

    Prepare bread

If using sliced bread, lay two slices flat. If using a roll, split it. Spread butter on one slice/half of the roll if using, and spread mayonnaise evenly on the other slice/half. If you prefer a tangier flavor, mix Dijon mustard into the mayonnaise before spreading.

  2. 2

    Assemble vegetables & seasoning

Place the lettuce leaf on the mayo-coated slice first (this helps keep bread from becoming soggy). Add tomato slices, sprinkle lightly with 1/8 tsp salt and 1/16 tsp black pepper, then add the red onion rings on top of the tomato.

  3. 3

    Add cheese & protein

Place the slice of cheese over the vegetables. Top the cheese with the 3 oz of sliced turkey (or chosen alternative protein). Arrange the meat evenly so the sandwich has balanced bites throughout.

  4. 4

    Finish sandwich

Place the top slice of bread or roll half (buttered side down if used) over the filling. Press gently to compact. If transporting, wrap the sandwich tightly in wax/parchment paper or place it in a resealable container to maintain shape and freshness.

Sides & Treats

  1. 5

Include one sealed individual bag of potato chips in the lunch box. Keep chips separate from the sandwich to avoid crushing—place them alongside the wrapped sandwich or in a separate compartment.

  2. 6

Pack one vanilla macaron and one salted caramel macaron in their own small container or plastic wrap. Place them in the lunch box in a position where they won’t be crushed (on top of the sandwich or beside the chips).

Packaging & serving

  1. 7

Place the wrapped sandwich into the plastic sandwich bag or airtight container. Add the bag of chips and the container with the two macarons. Include the napkin. Seal the lunch box or bag. If the lunch will be stored for more than a couple hours or in warm weather, include an ice pack to keep ingredients fresh.

  2. 8

Serve chilled or at room temperature. If desired, provide extra mustard or mayonnaise packets for the diner to add just before eating.
