Method
Tea
- 1
Heat water
Pour 2 cups (about 475 ml) of fresh cold water into a kettle and bring it to a near-boil. Aim for about 200–205°F (just off a rolling boil) — ideal for black teas like Earl Grey.
- 2
Preheat teapot or cup
If you have time, pour a little hot water into the teapot or cup to warm it, swirl, then discard. This helps maintain infusion temperature.

- 4
Steep
Pour the hot water over the tea leaves. Cover and steep for 3–4 minutes. Steep 3 minutes for a lighter cup, 4 minutes for fuller flavor. Avoid steeping longer than 5 minutes to prevent bitterness.
- 5
Strain and serve
Remove the infuser or strain the leaves into your cup. If you used a tea bag, lift and lightly press (do not squeeze aggressively) to release flavor, then discard.
