Method
Cocktail
Brew and cool espresso
Brew about 2 ounces of espresso and allow it to cool for 3–5 minutes. For best crema and flavor, use a freshly pulled shot and set aside uncovered so it drops slightly in temperature but still retains aroma.
Prepare shaker
Add 1 cup of ice to a cocktail shaker (or shaker glass). This chills the drink and helps create the frothy top when shaken vigorously.
Combine ingredients
Pour the cooled espresso, 1.5 oz vodka, 1 oz coffee liqueur, and 0.5 oz simple syrup into the shaker over the ice.
Shake
Secure the shaker and shake very vigorously for 15–20 seconds. The vigorous shaking aerates the mixture and produces a silky, foamy crema on top.
Strain and serve
Double-strain the cocktail into a chilled or ice-filled shaker glass or coupe (the menu calls for an iced shaker glass). Use a fine mesh strainer if available to remove small ice shards for a cleaner texture.
Garnish & Finish
Make quick whipped cream
In a small bowl, whip 2 tbsp heavy cream with 0.5 tsp powdered sugar and 1/8 tsp vanilla extract until soft peaks form (a few strokes with a whisk or 10–15 seconds with a handheld frother). You only need a dollop to float atop the martini.
Top drink
Spoon or gently dollop the whipped cream onto the center of the martini so it floats as a small cap. This keeps the coffee aroma visible at the edges.
Add signature Oreo
Place one Oreo cookie perched on the whipped cream (or lightly press it into the cream so it stands at an angle). If desired, twist the cookie and place half for a different presentation.
Finish
Optionally sprinkle 1/4 tsp espresso beans or cacao nibs over the whipped cream for extra visual contrast and a hint of crunch. Serve immediately with a small spoon or straw.
