Brewing Process
1. Step 1: Prepare the Mash
In a large pot, combine 1000 ml of water and 150 g of malted barley. Heat the mixture to around 65°C (149°F) and maintain this temperature for about 60 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure even extraction of sugars.
2. Step 2: Boil the Mixture
After the mash is complete, filter out the spent grains and bring the liquid (wort) to a boil. Add 30 g of hops and boil for 30 minutes. This will add bitterness and flavor to the beer.
3. Step 3: Cool the Wort
Once boiling is complete, cool the wort quickly to around 20°C (68°F) using a wort chiller or an ice bath. This helps to prevent unwanted flavors.
4. Step 4: Fermentation
Transfer the cooled wort to a fermentation vessel and add 10 g of yeast. Seal the vessel and let it ferment in a dark, cool place for about 7 days or until fermentation is complete.
5. Step 5: Add Natural Flavoring
After fermentation, add 5 ml of natural flavoring to the beer. This enhances the taste and aroma of the non-alcoholic beer.
6. Step 6: Carbonate
Finally, mix in 500 ml of carbonated water to the fermented beer to give it the signature fizziness. Stir gently to combine.
Finalizing the Beer
7. Step 7: Bottle the Beer
Transfer the beer into clean and sanitized bottles. Make sure to leave some space at the top of each bottle.
8. Step 8: Chill and Serve
Refrigerate the bottled beer for at least 24 hours before serving. Serve cold and enjoy your homemade Heineken 0.0.
