For one 75 cl bottle

Optional flavor additions (choose 0–2)

Method

Serve chilled plain sparkling water

1

Chill bottle

Ensure the 75 cl bottle of sparkling water has been refrigerated for at least 2 hours prior to serving so it is thoroughly cold. Chilled water retains carbonation better when opened.

2

Prepare glass (optional)

If serving in a glass, add 4 ice cubes to a tall glass only if desired. Note: ice will dilute carbonation slightly as it melts.

3

Pour

Open the bottle carefully at a near-vertical angle to minimize foaming. Pour the cold sparkling water gently into the glass, tilting the glass slightly and pouring down the side to preserve bubbles.

4

Garnish (optional)

Slip 1 lemon or lime wedge on the rim of the glass or squeeze the wedge over the glass and drop it in for a subtle citrus note.

Serve chilled with optional flavor additions

5

Prepare flavorings

If using cucumber, slice 4 thin rounds. If using mint, gently clap 6 leaves between your palms to release aroma. If using citrus juice, measure 15 ml (about 1 tablespoon). If using simple syrup, have 1 tsp ready.

6

Add to glass

Place cucumber slices and/or mint leaves into the glass (under the ice if used). Add citrus juice and/or simple syrup to taste. Be conservative: start with the quantities listed; you can add more after tasting.

7

Pour and stir gently

Open the bottle carefully and pour the sparkling water into the glass over the flavorings. Stir very gently once with a long spoon to integrate flavors without flattening the carbonation.

8

Final garnish and serve

Add the lemon/lime wedge to the rim or into the drink as a garnish. Serve immediately while cold and effervescent.
