Tea Base

Milk & Cream (optional)

Method

Tea Base

1

Preheat and measure

Bring fresh cold water to a rolling boil (about 212°F / 100°C). While water heats, measure 2 tsp strong black tea leaves per serving into a teapot or heatproof infuser mug.

2

Bloom the leaves

Pour a small splash (about 1 oz) of boiling water over the leaves, swirl gently, and let sit 10–15 seconds to bloom the leaves and release initial aromatics; discard this quick rinse if using lower-quality leaves (optional).

3

Steep

Pour the remaining boiling water (about 11 oz) over the tea leaves. Cover and steep 4–5 minutes for a robust, breakfast-strength brew. For an even stronger 'Noir' character, steep up to 6 minutes but avoid going much longer to prevent excessive bitterness.

4

Strain

Strain the tea leaves and pour the brewed tea into a warmed cup, leaving no loose leaves behind.

Milk & Cream (optional)

5

Heat and combine

If using milk/cream, warm 2 oz whole milk and 1 tsp heavy cream gently in a small saucepan or microwave until just steaming (do not boil). Froth lightly if desired for texture.

6

Add to tea

Slowly pour the warmed milk/cream into the brewed tea to taste, stirring gently to combine. The suggested amounts yield a lightly creamy finish; adjust milk to preference.

Sweeteners & Finishes

7

Sweeten

Stir in 1 tsp granulated sugar (or your preferred sweetener) while tea is hot so it dissolves completely. Adjust sweetness to taste.

8

Aromatics & Noir finish

For a subtle vanilla nuance, add 1/8–1/4 tsp vanilla extract (start small). Optionally, add a very small pinch (~1/16 tsp) of freshly ground black pepper to introduce a faint spicy, 'noir' edge—use sparingly so it complements rather than overpowers.

9

Serve

Give the tea one final gentle stir, taste and adjust sweetness or milk as desired, then serve immediately in a warmed cup. Pair with toast, pastries, or savory breakfast items.
