Cocktail
Method
Cocktail
Prepare Espresso
Brew a fresh, strong shot of espresso (about 0.75–1 oz). Let it cool for 1–2 minutes so it's hot but not boiling; slightly warm or room temperature espresso helps emulsify rather than melt too much ice.
Chill Glass
Place a martini/coupe glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure it's well chilled.
Combine Ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add 1 cup of ice, 2 oz Wheatley Vodka, 1 oz Atomic Black Espresso Liqueur, 0.5 oz Irish cream, the cooled 0.75 oz espresso, and 0.25 oz simple syrup if you prefer a slightly sweeter drink.
Dry Shake (optional)
For a slightly creamier, frothier top: briefly 'dry shake' (shake without ice) the ingredients for 8–10 seconds to help emulsify the Irish cream and espresso.
Wet Shake
Add ice (if you dry-shook, now add fresh ice) and vigorously shake the shaker for 12–18 seconds. Aim for a very cold, slightly frothy mixture and to properly chill and dilute the cocktail.
Strain
Discard the ice or water from the chilled glass. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled martini/coupe glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to catch any small ice shards or espresso sediment. This yields a smooth, silky surface.
Garnish and Serve
Garnish with three coffee beans placed on the frothy surface (traditionally representing health, wealth, and happiness). Serve immediately while cold.
