1

Chill glass

Place a rocks glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.

2

Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass, add 2 oz bourbon, 0.75 oz sweet vermouth, 0.5 oz cherry liqueur, 0.25 oz orange curaçao, 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash cherry bark vanilla bitters.

3

Stir

Fill the mixing glass with ice (about 1 cup), then stir with a bar spoon for 30–45 seconds until well chilled and properly diluted (aim for about 20–25% dilution). The mixture should be cold and slightly viscous.

4

Prepare glass

Discard the chilling ice or remove the glass from the freezer. Place one large ice cube or sphere into the chilled rocks glass.

5

Strain

Using a julep or Hawthorne strainer, double-strain the stirred cocktail into the chilled rocks glass over the large ice cube to keep it clear.

6

Garnish and express

Take the orange peel and hold it over the drink, skin side down. Give it a firm twist to express the oils over the surface, then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the glass with a Luxardo cherry perched alongside or skewered.

7

Serve

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the balance of bourbon, sweet vermouth and cherry notes—the Chattanooga 91 is a spirit-forward, slightly sweet stirred cocktail.
