Citrus-Mint Cocktail Base
Stylish Divider Garnish & Rim
Ice & Tools
Method
Citrus-Mint Cocktail Base
Muddle
In a cocktail shaker, place the fresh mint leaves and simple syrup. Gently muddle the mint 6–8 times — press to release oils but avoid shredding the leaves into bits.
Build & Shake
Add vodka (or light rum), fresh lime juice, and fresh grapefruit juice to the shaker. Add enough ice to fill the shaker about two-thirds. Secure lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the exterior of the shaker is frosty and well-chilled.
Top with Soda
Strain the shaken mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a chilled highball or coupe glass filled with crushed ice (or a large ice cube). Top with 2 oz club soda and gently stir once to incorporate, preserving carbonation.
Stylish Divider Garnish & Rim
Create the Divider Look
Cut the thin grapefruit wheel partway through (about 1/3 of the way from the edge) so it can sit on the rim like a divider. Place the grapefruit wheel on the glass rim so it visually splits the top of the drink into sections. Tuck the mint sprig at the cut so it stands upright between the grapefruit slice and the rim.
Finish
Float the edible flower gently on top of the ice (optional). If using a large ice cube, place it in the glass after rimming and before pouring to keep the presentation minimal and refined.
Ice & Service
If serving multiple drinks, prepare crushed ice in a chilled bowl to keep the shaker cold and speed assembly. Serve immediately while the drink is bright and fizzy.
Provide a short spoon or cocktail pick so guests can move the grapefruit 'divider' or mint sprig to taste without breaking the presentation.
