Espresso

Steamed Milk

Optional Flavor & Garnish

Method

Espresso

1

Preheat and prep

Turn on the espresso machine and allow it to reach brewing temperature (about 10–15 minutes). Preheat the cup by rinsing with hot water and emptying it.

2

Dose and tamp

Weigh 18 g of finely ground espresso coffee into the portafilter basket. Distribute the grounds evenly, then tamp with a level, firm pressure to create a smooth, flat puck.

3

Pull the shot

Lock the portafilter into the machine and start extraction. Aim for about 36 ml of espresso in 25–30 seconds for a balanced double shot. Stop extraction when target volume/time is reached.

Steamed Milk

4

Prepare milk

Pour 200 ml of whole milk into the milk pitcher. Position the steam wand tip just below the milk surface.

5

Texturize milk

Purge the steam wand briefly. Submerge the tip slightly and turn on steam to create a whirlpool. Stretch milk for 3–6 seconds to introduce microfoam, then fully submerge the wand and continue steaming until pitcher is hot to the touch (approx. 60–65°C / 140–149°F). Aim for microfoam and about 20 ml of silky foam.

6

Settle milk

Tap the pitcher on the counter and swirl to remove large bubbles and integrate foam into milk for a glossy texture.

Assembly & Finish

7

Combine espresso and milk

Pour the espresso into the preheated cup. Gently pour the steamed milk over the espresso, starting higher to integrate, then lowering the pitcher to allow foam to sit on top. Pour pattern can be used for latte art if desired.

8

Add sweetener and garnish

If using syrup, add 15 ml to the cup before pouring milk or to the finished drink and stir gently. Dust cocoa powder or cinnamon (1 tsp) on top of the foam for garnish.

9

Serve with digital menu context

Present the finished coffee in front of the coffee digital menu display for customer viewing. Ensure the display lists the drink name, key ingredients (espresso, steamed milk), serving size, price, and any customizations available. Use a clear photo or short looping video of the prepared coffee to accompany the menu entry.

Cleaning & Equipment Care

10

Purge and wipe the steam wand immediately after use, backflush the group head per machine guidelines, knock out spent puck, and rinse the portafilter. Rinse and dry the milk pitcher and wipe down work surfaces.
