Bottled Water (single serving)
Optional enhancements
Method
Prepare bottle
Inspect and clean bottle
Ensure the bottle is food-safe and the cap seals. If the bottle is re-used, wash it with hot soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow to air-dry or rinse with boiling water to sanitize. Verify no cracks, off-odors, or residue remain.
Fill with water
If using tap water, confirm it is potable. Fill the bottle with 500 ml of clean drinking water, leaving a small headspace (about 1–2 cm) below the cap to allow for thermal expansion. If using filtered or bottled water, pour directly from the source.
Cap the bottle tightly to prevent contamination and spills. Wipe any drips from the outside of the bottle.
Optional enhancements and serving
If desired, add 4 ice cubes to chill the water before capping, or chill the filled bottle in a refrigerator for 30–60 minutes. Alternatively, drop in one lemon slice and/or one mint sprig for mild flavor before sealing. Note: adding fresh produce reduces shelf life and may require refrigeration.
Label the bottle with date prepared if not consumed immediately. Store capped bottled water in a cool, dark place or refrigerated if enhanced with fresh ingredients. Consume within 24–48 hours if lemon or mint were added; otherwise, commercially sealed bottled water is safe per manufacturer guidelines.
