Mixing & Chilling
Serving & Finish
Place a single large ice cube in a chilled rocks glass. Strain the stirred cocktail over the ice using a Hawthorne or julep strainer.
Express the oils from an orange twist over the drink by holding the twist peel about 3–4 inches above the glass and giving it a brisk squeeze (or carefully flame the peel over the glass to add a light caramelized citrus note), then rub the twist around the glass rim and drop it into the drink as garnish.
Optional: Add an extra dash of Angostura bitters on top for aroma, or a light flamed orange peel for smoky citrus perfume.
Presentation
Serve immediately. Encourage the drinker to inhale the oils from the orange twist before the first sip to appreciate the layered aroma, then sip slowly to experience the evolving flavors — sweet coffee, deep oak and molasses from rum, bright citrus, and warming bitters.
