Method

Blueberry Addition

1

Prepare berries

Rinse 1 cup fresh blueberries under cold water, drain in a colander, and pick out any stems or soft/blemished berries. Pat dry gently with paper towel.

2

Combine ingredients

In a small mixing bowl, add 1 cup blueberries, 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon cornstarch. Gently toss the mixture with a spoon or spatula until the berries are evenly coated and the cornstarch is distributed. Let sit for 5 minutes to macerate slightly.

3

Cook (optional for warm or saucy addition)

If you want a warm, slightly sauced blueberry addition, transfer the coated blueberries to a small nonstick skillet over medium-low heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 3–5 minutes until the berries release juices and the mixture thickens slightly. Remove from heat. Stir in 1/2 tablespoon butter if using for a glossy finish and 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest if using for brightness.

4

Use raw (alternative)

If you prefer to add the blueberries raw (for cereal, yogurt, or batter), skip the cooking step and fold the macerated berries directly into your base just before serving or baking.

5

Storage

Use prepared blueberries immediately for best texture. Store any leftover uncooked macerated berries in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Cooked blueberry mixture will keep refrigerated for up to 3 days; reheat gently before using.
